Before I worked in radio I always pictured radio studios bustling with people… let me tell you what, it REALLY is NOT like that…. I have sat here the last 2 hours by myself, playing tunes and talkin to the wonderful people of GR… =)
How long does it take to quit being the new girl? Well it seems it takes quite a while because I definitely still feel like the baby of the Townsquare Media family. Now I’m not complaining but it is rare for me to score awesome interviews with big bands that I enjoy, mainly because I AM AWFUL AT INTERVIEWS… yup straight dirt. I mean I try to be better,I ask for help from Dahmer and J.T. but something always sounds so forced in my voice when it comes to interviewing… That said, I try to avoid interviews at all cost, until I heard that Mayday Parade was coming to Grand Rapids…. AHHHHH! Now we do NOT play them, but some of our sister stations do, and I LOVE them, seriously like one of my favorite bands! I was so lucky to get an interview with them! Of coarse before this interview went down I had to approve it with J.T. he gave me the OK and the next step came, picking them up from the Orbit Room, and taking them to the WGRD Studio. I could not fit them in my 10 year old, ford hatchback so, I had to borrow my friends, Grandma Rosie’s car… Yup picking up my favorite rock band in good ole’ Grandma Rosie’s car… It didnt seem to bother them, SUPER nice guys, they chatted with me about life on tour, their new album, what they got comin next, plus they even played an acoustic song! So check it out below…. My interview with Mayday Parade!
Goodness Gracious! I completely forgot to do a write up about Muskegon Summer Celebration! Im still pretty new to radio and any chance I get to meet a band still gets me pretty excited, well I had the ultimate of ultimate days when I got to introduce Theory of a Deadman, and Skillet over in Muskegon! Both bands I am pretty crazy about so I was geeked out of my mind as you can imagine! haha! To make things better I ran into an old friend who worked the carnival and so I rode all the rides like a champ! (I puked up my funnel cake but it was definitely worth it!) Here is a picture I got after doing some stage announcements, Theory of a Deadman was very cool!
This week my AlternaChick Promotions girls and myself got to work with the FABULOUS EarthTones Photography, Sharon (owner and operator) is such a wonderful photographer and I always have a fantastic time working with her. We went out to the Childrens Museum, downtown Grand Rapids and did some fun shots in front of that amazing mural they have on the brick wall, then went around back and got some great gritty shots in front of some sweet broken steps. After that, just to beat the heat we went over to Easttown and played around in the fountain! All in all a great day with some great girls, here a few of the shots we got!
One of the perks of working in radio is getting to meet so many amazing musicians. My favorite band is Go Radio, the band is from Tallahassee Florida, and one of the headlining bands for Warped Tour 2011! This past Saturday the guys of Go Radio were in Grand Rapids playing at the Mix Tape as headlining band for The District Lines Tour. Lucky for me the guys had a chance to swing by ‘GRD and hang out in the studio for awhile, and even play us an acoustic song off their newest album, “Lucky Street”. for more from Go Radio Click Here!
Great news fellow rockers – there’s a revolution happening in radio and you’re a part of it. No longer do you need to be in the car to listen to the radio. We have a brand new radioPup app that allows you to listen to Grand Rapids Rock Alternative all day, anytime, anywhere, for free – directly on your smart phone.
The free radioPup app is now available on iPhone and iPod Touch. You can also download the iPhone and iPod Touch version through the iTunes store or at radioPup.com.
So now you can listen to all your favorite shows like Free Beer and Hot Wings, Dahmer Before Dark and of coarse Jackie on Air, straight from your phone biotches!

I got the opportunity to talk with Shim from Sick Puppies today he told me all about a fan he had that did something a little… unusual, the weird ass prank another rock band played on them during a show, and lots more about their world crew, and shoe endorsement. Sick Puppies are set to rock 5/3rd Ballpark on June 11th for the Free Beer and Hot Wings Show “Wingstock 2011″ Seether, Hinder, and local rockers Wayland will also be taking the stage, giving G-Rap it’s first BIG outdoor show of the year. If you don’t have your tickets yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, head on over to the Fifth Third Ball Park Box Office!
