Walt Disney World Marathon!

I have been a naughty blogger lately! I haven’t blogged at all, but I am home from Florida now and officially back at the grind stone.  First off I traveled down to Orlando with my boyfriend Jimmy, he has never been to Florida so it was an exciting trip all around.  I was a bit of a lazy girl and did not run at all the week of the race, you are not supposed to run much the week of a marathon but I’m sure running a few miles wouldn’t have hurt; haha.  Anyway Sunday came quick and the marathon was NOT my best performance!  I ran awful =(  First 16 miles I was doing AMAZING I was right at 7:40 pace a mile and couldn’t have been happier, but then it all fell apart!

My legs started to give out, my hips hurt, my feet were blistering and I just couldn’t hack it.  I managed to finish the race but it was a struggle and I lost a lot of time.  I was hoping beyond hope I could pull out a qualification for Boston but it wasn’t my day.  Well try, try, try again right?!?  I am entered in the Kalamazoo Marathon this May, where I hope to redeem myself!

Other than running AWFUL, the trip was AMAZING.  We had so much fun and I got to hang out with some really cool kids at the AT-Childrens Project pasta dinner banquet.  I am so happy we earned so much money for the kids I hope I can help and earn more at my next marathon.

One of the days we were down in Orlando we made it out to Universal Studios where we got to go to “The Magical World of Harry Potter”  It was AWESOME!!!!  Everything was so well done!  Just like I imagined in the books!  The rest of the trip we made it out to a resort with some friends and got to spend some time in the sun on the beach!

Running when I still felt good!

Still feelin good!

Marathon Training Update!

AHHHHH Alright so last week I did a stellar 16 mile run that but it left my right hip in a lot of pain. For having ran as long as I have you’d think I would know a thing or two about basic running injuries, but no I do not. I am one of the blessed few who have not experienced too many injuries. This week I tried to take it easy and I did not run at all. Now this is just a theory that I have come up with on my own but I eat really crappy (I know it’s something I should work on) and I typically run about 30+ miles a week, so thats a lot of calories I am burning every week. So imagine I take a week and do not run but eat the same. I swear to god I gain 5 pounds purely in my butt! Well today marked 6 days of no running so I said OK lets try it again. I only went 4 miles and I help a decent pace (about 7:40 a mile) my hip wasn’t acting up but I did start to feel a twinge of pain toward the end. Only 30 days until this marathon, I am pretty much royally screwed. I’ll have more updates soon!

Running the Disney Marathon for the ATCP

Hey guys! I have been running for MANY years and and pretty excited that this January I’ll be traveling with Eric Zane and Producer Steve to Florida for the Walt Disney World Marathon! The three of us are running to help earn money for the AT Childrens Project, AT is a disease that affects children its degenerative and these kids need help!

If you are feeling generous, then help me earn 600 bucks for the AT Childrens Project, by clicking HERE

In exchange for your money I am showing you this picture of me during the 10k in college track… I am DYING in it… so there ya go! haha

I’m going to kick Zane and Steve’s butt anyway so at least put your money on a winner ;)

A Girls Best Friend Triathlon

Those of you who read this blog regularly know that I am an extremely avid runner.  I eat, sleep, and dream running.  When I finished running at Ferris State University I really struggled, part of me was so excited about the new path I was forging in radio, and broadcast but the other part of me missed all the days of 6am runs, and drunken Saturday nights with my fellow team mates (Only after a good race of coarse ;p) Its only been 2 years that I have been off FSU’s team but it feels much longer.  I still run and like to think I am still a decent runner/athlete but I definitely am no wheres near the caliber I was not that long ago.  Working with the Free Beer and Hot Wings Morning Show, we talk about running, and road races a lot because of host, Eric Zane.  Zane is an AMAZING athlete especially for taking up running a little later in life then I did.  Well Zane does triathlons, and every time he talks about one I think, “WOW, that sounds so fun!”  (I know right? what’s fun about swimming, then biking, then after all that running… but  then again I’m crazy remember?)  So when my best friend Nikki said she wanted to compete in “A girls best friend triathlon”  I was in!  We had such a great time, and it just made my flame to compete burn a little brighter…  I am hopefully competing in Reeds Lake Triathlon coming up in September.  Here are a few pictures from the big race last weekend!

Running, Running, Running

I have been a runner for 15 years and I have definitely fallen off the band wagon time and time again.  It’s one of those sports where if you aren’t 100% committed then it’s difficult to maintain focus.  Having ran at Ferris State University for 5 years I know what hard training is but after graduating college and getting my first “real” job, I took a little time off running, and by a little I mean 6 months of no running which resulted in 10 pounds of unwanted fat!  I have been slowly working my way up the ladder though and I have gotten my mileage back up to 40 miles a week because I am committed to running the Grand Rapids Marathon.  It is in October and I am excited but let me tell ya, I am definitely going through one of those times where I am in need of motivation!  It’s hard making myself get off the couch to go run 6 miles in 100 degree weather!  So this was just a little blog rant from me, before I go out for yet another hot run…

Frankenmuth’s Vollkslaufe 4th of July 5k

Fourth of July weekend was so amazing!  Started off with a beautiful Saturday with my boyfriend and a few old friends, then Sunday got to head on over to Muskegon Summer Celebration where I introduced Skillet! As well as got to meet Skillet and Theory of a Deadman!! What an awesome day!  Then Monday came and I ran the Frankenmuth Volkslaufe 5k.  Frankenmuth is a beautiful little German town in Michigan.  There 5k is so cool because instead of giving metals or trophys they give these really cool beer stiens!  So I made my goal to try and get top 3 in my division so I could score one.  It was a VERY hot morning, and while the course description said it was, “flat” it was in fact considerably hilly, which led me to a considerably crappy time, BUT lucky for me everyone must have been feeling off their game because I still managed a strong second place!  Not to mention I got to reminisce with an old friend and team mate, Jenelle, I must say it was wonderful to be able to see someone who was such a big part of my college running family.  Plus on of my best girl friends, Chelsie decided to give the 5k a whirl too! Ive got a few pictures from the race below!
