It’s a Hair Affair!

I LOVE hair, love it!  Short, long, medium, thick, thin, I don’t care, I firmly believe every can rock a head of awesome hair you just need the tools to do so!  Over the years I have had overhaul after overhaul when it comes to my  hair, from long to short, to bright red, to dark brown its always something different I have learned that changing my style can make a big difference in how I feel!  The biggest obstacle I needed to learn though was how to change my style with out damaging my hair.  Bleaching my hair was definitely killing it off at a fast pace!  I now keep it dark but there are so many things I can do to change it and have a different look all the time, with little to no damage!  Check out my hair do’s!

Lets start with hair clips/bows  You can spice up a look with a funky hair accessory.  They sell them everywhere from your local walmart to Claire’s in many malls, I choose to make all mine, they are different and one of a kind and typically all they take is some hot glue and an imagination!

This hair clip was made from a hat I purchased at a local thrift store. I took the black flower off and with some inexpensive read feathers I hot glued them to a plain black hair barrett I got from Walmart, After they dried I postitioned it in my hair the way I like!

This one was special to me. It was New Years Eve and a few of my girl friends all got their hair done but I couldn't afford it. So instead I went through and curled my hair and teased the top, then with some bobby pins i pinned the curls up in the back like a formal up-do. It wasn't done yet though, I needed something, so I made another hair clip! My dress was all black along with my shoes so for a pop of color I took blue and green feathers along with some left over rhinestones and costume fringe and hot glued them all to a barret. The beauty of this kind of hair clip is that it doesn't need to look perfect, the rhinestones don't need to all line up, it creates a fun look, and I definitely stood out!

This was just last month, there was a party my boyfriend and I were invited too and everyone was wearing black. My hair wasn't really doing what I wanted and I didn't have time to make anything so I took an old black scarf and tied it like a headband around my head. I then secured it in a bow on the right side of my head!

Now for length and color! I constantly want to cut my hair, then grow it, OR I want to be a blonde and a month later I’m like NEVER MIND BRUNETTE! I have learned the extensions can make a world of difference. Either clip in extensions from your local Sally Beauty Supply, or going to a salon and getting them put in. I have done everything from highlight my hair through extensions, have purple streaks, go super long, tons of options and it doesn’t damage your hair one bit!

Anyone can do this one! Its my natural hair, with some purple extension pieces I scattered through out my hair, I created a fun funky look!

Basic clip ins, I used a little dry shampoo (something as inexpensive as Suave will do!) throughout my hair so the clip would have something to grip too. I then just clipped them around my head, from left side to right! I chose to use hot rollers but you can also just use a fat curling iron to create this one!

This was so fun! I actually was at a salon for this look because it was for a photo shoot with "Looking Glass Girls Photography" but it still is super simple. Again with the clip in extensions all over, we then curled them and teased them to give them a messy look. After it was curled she secured my hair into low pig tails and added some red clip in pieces for some accent color! The last touch was a simple red ribbon bobby pinned to my head like a headband! All in all it took 15 mins and it appears like it too much longer, plus my hair at the time of this shoot was only chin length!

Graduation day! It was warm out and I was itching to go back blond, but I knew it was really screw up my hair. So instead I went to my stylist and she put blond extensions through out my hair giving it a blond highlighted look! I was thrilled with the out come and I no bleach was needed!

These are just my tips, if you are anything like me and get scissor happy with your hair the minute you have a bad day then maybe these looks will be helpful! Little side note, all these pictures were taken within a small time frame!! 2010-Present!

New Comp Card!

I got my new comp card all done and up to date! Hopefully the stats will change a little considering I am currently on week 2 of P90x! (One of my resolutions!!) It’s going very well, I’m down two pounds which wasn’t really my intention, I mostly just want to build up some muscle. All in all I’d say its working, the work outs are killer and the diet is hard to stick to, especially considering my boyfriend and I eat pizza normally 2-3 times a week! (I know we are awful haha) But we have been very good at sticking to it even though today is only day 9, I have high hopes!

Any who! Check out my comp card, hopefully it gets me a few jobs… we shall see!

Nifty Thrifty New Clothes!

I’m not necessarily the best at thrift store shopping, I don’t always find the best deals or anything crazy, but I was super excited I recently found the cutest coral/peach colored off shoulder shirt and made a head band to match! Thought I would show it off!
Head band so simple! Saw it at “Claires” in the mall and new immediately I could save myself 15 bucks and make it. I used some coral fabric I had left over from something else and covered the head band with it, simply using hot glue. Then some very cheap fake flowers and white netting completed it!

Walt Disney World Marathon!

I have been a naughty blogger lately! I haven’t blogged at all, but I am home from Florida now and officially back at the grind stone.  First off I traveled down to Orlando with my boyfriend Jimmy, he has never been to Florida so it was an exciting trip all around.  I was a bit of a lazy girl and did not run at all the week of the race, you are not supposed to run much the week of a marathon but I’m sure running a few miles wouldn’t have hurt; haha.  Anyway Sunday came quick and the marathon was NOT my best performance!  I ran awful =(  First 16 miles I was doing AMAZING I was right at 7:40 pace a mile and couldn’t have been happier, but then it all fell apart!

My legs started to give out, my hips hurt, my feet were blistering and I just couldn’t hack it.  I managed to finish the race but it was a struggle and I lost a lot of time.  I was hoping beyond hope I could pull out a qualification for Boston but it wasn’t my day.  Well try, try, try again right?!?  I am entered in the Kalamazoo Marathon this May, where I hope to redeem myself!

Other than running AWFUL, the trip was AMAZING.  We had so much fun and I got to hang out with some really cool kids at the AT-Childrens Project pasta dinner banquet.  I am so happy we earned so much money for the kids I hope I can help and earn more at my next marathon.

One of the days we were down in Orlando we made it out to Universal Studios where we got to go to “The Magical World of Harry Potter”  It was AWESOME!!!!  Everything was so well done!  Just like I imagined in the books!  The rest of the trip we made it out to a resort with some friends and got to spend some time in the sun on the beach!

Running when I still felt good!

Still feelin good!

Happy New Year!

I am a few days late!  New Years Eve was a definite blast on my end!  I had some great friends come out and celebrate the new year over at the Crown Plaza in Grand Rapids.  My boyfriend Jimmy and I got a room through my work and we lived it up!  (By live it up I mean we took a 30 pack of beer and filled the bath tub with ice, the beer and a fifth of burnetts! But hey we enjoyed ourselves!)

As I do every year I have TONS of resolutions so I thought I would put a few on paper.

1. Complete P90X with Jim! *we are starting the 16th when we arrive home from Florida*

2. Continue my running training and compete in 2 marathons! (One being Walt Disney, this Sunday!)

3. Practice all my pageant moves and place top 5 at Miss Galaxy International!

4. Eat Healthier…? (yah we’ll see about that one…)

Anyway there’s a few of my resolutions!  What are yours?

Time to Challenge Myself!

By now you all know I am a RUNNER and a Pageant freak! To keep in shape for pageants I literally do nothing but run.  Well I don’t exactly eat very good and lately I have noticed some muscle loss as well as a couple pounds here and there that I have been gaining.  I want to nip that in the butt ASAP!  So I decided to add some core/strength exercises to my daily routine.   I am always open to suggestions but for now My plan is to continue with my daily run but every morning kick start it with a work out from, http://www.bodyrock.tv/ A fellow pageant friend has been using this website for a while and she has had incredible results.  I am not doing any drastic change because frankly I don’t need a drastic change just a little muscle definition and maybe a pound or 2 from my waist.  I have never done any kind of weights or strength training so I hope that doing a little can make a difference.  This picture was taken just today when I decided to try something new.  I will post one again in two weeks after hopefully completing a work out every day =)

Lets see if I can build a little muscle! Ill be a Lean Mean Fighting GREEN Machine!!! (Green… my last name hehe)

The Art of the Pajama

This morning still in my PJ's

I am a “comfy” person.  I like wearing comfortable clothes and lounging out, so pajamas are like my thing!  Lately I have really gotten into pajama dresses or night gowns.  They are so perfect for when you are having a girls night, laying around drinking beers, or wine but still don’t want to look like a complete mess!  I just wanted to share this because recently a girl friend stayed over at my apartment from out of town and commented on how I always sleep in a nightgown or matching pajamas.  Here is my answer to why I like to sleep in a night gown:

For one thing what if there is a fire! I have this same thought a lot. Now say there is a fire and I am sleeping soundly in my awesome pajama dress. We obviously wake up all alarmed and sh*t and book out of the apartment. Now a bunch of hot fire fighters are going to come and put the fire out, now I am in luck! Because I am wearing an oh so classy/awesome pajama dress, the girl who lives in the apartment above me (c3) who is kind of hot, steps out and is wearing nasty sweat pants with stains all over them and a dirty shirt. So now who’s the hot fire fighter going to help first… I think the answer is obvious. (who’s hotter now c3!)

Secondly pajama dresses are comfortable, and really if they are good enough for Abe Lincoln and any other old dude from way back when then they are perfectly good for me!
